Four Points Flex by Sheraton in Japan — Marriott’s Budget Business Hotel Explained

Four Points Flex by Sheraton in Japan

This guide is for you if:

  • You want to earn Marriott Bonvoy points without paying full Marriott prices
  • You’ve seen “Four Points Flex by Sheraton” in search results and aren’t sure what it is
  • You’re confused about the difference between “Four Points by Sheraton” and “Four Points Flex by Sheraton”
  • You’re planning a business trip or budget-focused trip to Japan and want a reliable, well-located option

Marriott isn’t just Ritz-Carlton and Westin. In Japan since 2024, the company has been quietly rolling out a budget-friendly brand called Four Points Flex by Sheraton — and it’s become one of the more interesting options for travelers who want Bonvoy points without the price tag of a mid-tier Marriott property.

By the end of 2025, there were over 17 Four Points Flex locations across Japan, with more coming. They’re always near the station. Breakfast is often served by Yayoiken or Matsuya. The rooms are small and function-focused.

The Name Is Confusing — Here’s How to Keep It Straight

Marriott has two “Four Points” brands, and yes, they’re easy to mix up:

BrandTierWhat it is
Four Points by SheratonSelectMid-tier Marriott brand. Found in airports and business districts globally. Japan example: Nagoya Chubu International Airport.
Four Points Flex by SheratonMidscaleBudget-tier Marriott brand, Japan-focused. The “Flex” signals a more stripped-down, affordable approach.

This article is about the second one — with the “Flex.” If you see the Sheraton name but a surprisingly low price, you’re looking at Four Points Flex.

Where Four Points Flex Sits in Marriott’s Brand Lineup

Marriott organizes its brands into four tiers. Four Points Flex occupies the newest and most affordable tier:

TierExample brandsIn one word
LuxuryRitz-Carlton, W, JW MarriottPremium
PremiumSheraton, Westin, Marriott HotelsUpscale
SelectCourtyard, Four Points by SheratonReliable
MidscaleFour Points Flex by SheratonAffordable

Midscale is Marriott’s answer to budget business travel. Clean rooms, fast Wi-Fi, a bed that works — and Bonvoy points. The brand’s philosophy was articulated by Marriott CEO Anthony Capuano at the Japan launch: for guests who arrive late and leave early, a clean bed and reliable Wi-Fi is enough.

The Unizo Hotels Backstory

Most Four Points Flex properties in Japan didn’t start as new builds — they were rebranded from Unizo Hotels, a Japanese business hotel chain that Marriott acquired the portfolio of. The rebrand wasn’t just a sign swap: interiors were renovated to Marriott’s brand standards, bringing the rooms up to a consistent look and quality.

The first batch of 14 properties opened in 2024, making Japan the first market in Asia to get the brand. Four Points Flex Osaka Umeda, which opened in November 2024, was Marriott’s 100th hotel in Japan overall.

Locations: Always Near the Station

One of the brand’s clearest strengths is location. Every Four Points Flex in Japan is within a short walk of a major train or subway station — typically 1 to 5 minutes.

Breakfast: Japanese Chain Restaurants, Not a Hotel Buffet

This is where Four Points Flex surprises most guests. Breakfast isn’t a standard hotel buffet — it’s served by a partner restaurant that operates inside the hotel. Common partners:

  • Yayoiken (やよい軒) — Japanese set meals: grilled fish, rice, miso soup, pickles. A chain beloved for consistent quality and filling portions.
  • Matsuya / Matsunoya (松屋・松のや) — Gyudon beef bowls and fried cutlet sets. Fast, no-fuss, satisfying.
  • Nagahama Coffee (ナガハマコーヒー) — At some locations, a more café-style morning option.
  • Bento styleThe Tokyo Shibuya West location serves a morning bento box.

The hotel-specific versions aren’t identical to the street-facing chain locations — some add Western breakfast items or hotel-only variations. But the general experience is a proper Japanese breakfast, quickly served, at casual-dining prices. For business travelers who need to eat and leave, this works well.

A few locations offer a buffet breakfast instead. Check the specific property’s page before booking if this matters to you.

The Rooms

Compact. That’s the honest description. Four Points Flex rooms are designed around the essentials: a comfortable bed, fast in-room Wi-Fi (free for Bonvoy members booking direct), a desk, and a bathroom. The renovation from Unizo brought consistent brand-standard interiors across the portfolio — clean lines, neutral palette, uniform quality.

Don’t expect a large room or elaborate amenities. This brand is explicitly built for guests who prioritize a good night’s sleep and a reliable start to the morning. If you want space or design character, look at a Select-tier Marriott property or consider SUGATA Hotel (see below).

Marriott Bonvoy Points

Four Points Flex is fully Bonvoy-eligible. Booking direct as a Bonvoy member gives you:

  • Points on your stay, redeemable for free nights or airline miles
  • Complimentary in-room Wi-Fi
  • Best Rate Guarantee

Bonvoy membership is free. If you’re staying at a Four Points Flex, there’s no reason not to be enrolled. The points accumulate quickly if you travel frequently — and Japan now has enough locations that you can chain stays across cities on a longer trip.

Rates start from approximately ¥3,000–¥9,000 per night depending on location and season — making this one of the most affordable ways to earn Bonvoy points in Japan.

Four Points Flex vs SUGATA Hotel: Same Marriott, Different Experience

If you’re staying in Osaka’s Shinsaibashi area, you’ll have both Four Points Flex and SUGATA Hotel (Series by Marriott) within walking distance of each other. They’re both Bonvoy-eligible, but they’re aimed at different travelers:

If you’re prioritizing price and convenience, Four Points Flex wins. If you want a more considered stay and are happy to pay a bit more, SUGATA is the more interesting option.

A third Marriott Midscale brand is also arriving in Osaka in April 2026: City Express by Marriott, opening in Shin-Imamiya and Namba Minami. Originally from Mexico, it’s the brand’s first appearance in Japan. → City Express by Marriott Osaka

Who Should Stay at Four Points Flex

Good fit if you:

  • Want Bonvoy points at the lowest possible nightly rate
  • Need to be steps from the station for an early departure or late arrival
  • Are on a business trip and just need a reliable, clean place to sleep
  • Want a familiar morning routine — a proper Japanese set breakfast at casual prices
  • Are doing a multi-city Japan trip and want consistent quality across cities
