Japan’s next-generation semiconductor manufacturer Rapidus chose Chitose, Hokkaido for its flagship factory.The company’s Integrated Innovation Module (IIM) facility began operations in April 2026, bringing engineers, executives, contractors, and suppliers from across Japan and overseas to Chitose on an ongoing basis.
The city, once known mainly as the gateway to New Chitose Airport and Sapporo, is rapidly becoming a business destination in its own right. Hotel supply has been struggling to keep pace with demand — which is exactly why these three chains chose now to open here.
Chitose Is Not Tokyo or Osaka — What to Expect
If your Japan business travel experience has been limited to Tokyo, Osaka, or Nagoya, Chitose will feel quite different:
・Smaller city: Population around 100,000. Compact and easy to navigate.
・Cold winters: Temperatures drop well below freezing from December through February. Heavy snowfall is normal. Pack warm layers — this is Hokkaido.
・Mild, pleasant summers: July and August bring temperatures around 20–25°C (68–77°F). A genuine relief compared to Tokyo’s summer heat and humidity.
・Airport convenience: New Chitose Airport (CTS) is one of Japan’s largest airports, with direct international flights from Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong, and other cities. From the airport to Chitose Station is about 10 minutes by JR train.

Sapporo
35 minutes by JR. Excellent food, the Susukino entertainment district, Sapporo Beer Museum, and much more. An easy evening or day trip.
Niseko
Approximately 1.5–2 hours from Chitose by car. One of Asia’s premier ski destinations, with legendary powder snow from December through April. ⛷️
If you’re in Chitose on a winter assignment, a weekend in Niseko is very much within reach.
