A lakeside castle town and the capital of Shimane Prefecture, also known as the “City of Water.” The main tourist attractions include Matsue Castle (a National Treasure), the sunset over Lake Shinji, and sightseeing cruises on the Horikawa River. New hotels in Izumo City

Izumo Taisha, which enshrines Okuninushi-no-Mikoto, the god of matchmaking, attracts a steady stream of visitors throughout the year. During the 10th month of the lunar calendar (Kamiari-zuki), it is said that the eight million gods gather from all over the country, causing hotels in the area to fill up quickly. It takes about 30 minutes by Ichibata Electric Railway from JR Izumo-shi Station to Izumo Taisha-mae Station. It is about a 10-minute drive from Izumo Matchmaking Airport (Izumo Airport). With many attractions such as Inasa Beach and the Ancient Izumo History Museum, we recommend planning a trip of at least one night.

The largest city in the Iwami region and the administrative and commercial hub of western Shimane Prefecture. It is a port town facing the Sea of Japan, famous for Hamada Port, which offers an abundance of fresh fish such as flounder and blackthroat seaperch. National highways and the JR San’in Main Line run through the city, and it is also accessible from Iwami Airport (Hagi-Iwami Airport). A small castle town known as the “Little Kyoto of San’in.” It’s popular with tourists for its moat teeming with koi, white-walled streets, the ruins of Tsuwano Castle, and Taikodani Inari Shrine (one of Japan’s five major Inari shrines). It’s about a 30-minute ride on the JR Yamaguchi Line from Masuda Station. The steam locomotive “SL Yamaguchi” runs seasonally between Shin-Yamaguchi and Tsuwano, making this an area popular with travelers specifically interested in the steam train.

A group of islands located in the Sea of Japan, approximately 50 to 80 km north of the Shimane Peninsula. Designated as the “Oki UNESCO Global Geopark,” the islands are renowned for their sheer cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and abundant natural beauty. The archipelago consists of four main islands: the Shimamae group (Nishinoshima, Nakanoshima, and Chiburijima) and the Shimogo group (Okinoshima Town). It can be reached by ferry (about 3 hours) or high-speed boat from Shichirui Port, or by flight (about 30 minutes) from Yonago or Izumo Airports to Oki Airport.
